Miss India is a nation-wide pageant organization that celebrates Indian culture and fashion in annual competitions. This year, the Florida pageant is based in Tampa Bay, and hosted by High-Fi Information Systems.
Since the pageant’s conception in 1980, the Miss India Worldwide organization has grown to become the “most glamorous Indian function in the world,” and is collaborated worldwide by the Indian Festival Committee (IFC), based in New York City. Once a Florida winner is crowned, they will go on compete in the Miss India USA pageant, and later the Miss India World competition.
Two Miss India USA winners have come from the Miss India Florida pageant (Stacy Isaac in 2001, and Trina Chakravarty in 2005), and the pageant hopes to find another nationwide winner at this year’s competition.
At the state level, the Indian Festival Committee finds local organizations to support and sponsor the pageant at several tiers. Involved organizations are the local backbone responsible for the lavishness, success and growth of the Miss India Florida pageant.
Every year, the Miss India Florida pageant attracts thousands of visitors, guests and select local business sponsors, and precedes the annual India Festival, held at the Florida State Fairgrounds. At this festival, Miss India Florida contestants perform before thousands, after which the year’s crowning winner is announced. Winners are chosen as Indian representatives of their state, based on their intelligence, beauty and talents.
